I disagree. The blanket "walking" is nonsensical. The answer seems fine to me. Also, the word "as" means the same as "while" according to the way in which it is used in the sentence. Your corrections are correct.

In reply to <a href="https://getitwriteonline.com/misplaced-participles-and-participial-phrases/#comment-182">H James James Brewington</a>.

Thank you for your kind words, Jim!
I decided to put "also" before "explained" because we are joining the two verbs: the post "looked" and "explained." If it had explained "how to do X" and "how to do y," then I would move the "also" before the "how" phrase.
But I thank you for drawing my attention to the sentence because it definitely needs to be revised: the second main clause needs an appropriate nominal to serve as the object of "explained." The adverb phrase "how . . . " cannot logically serve that function. I shall go in now and revise it! Many thanks!

In your posting "Misplaced Participles", (British comma placement) I noticed this sentence:
"That post looked at familiar one-word modifiers such as only and almost, and it also explained how to identify and correct squinting modifiers." May I suggest the modifier "also" be placed after "explained" and not before it?
With admiration and gratitude for your posts,
Jim

Terrific insights, Dr. Grossman. I have gone back into the article and adjusted the "answers" to reflect your considerations. I always appreciate your thoughtful responses. Keep 'em coming!

I don't like the corrected versions of test questions 3 and 5. Actually, I read 3 the first time as a figure of speech (the blanket was indeed walking--i.e., the boy carrying the blanket was doing the walking), which I assumed to be the writer's intentional cute phrasing. The corrected version has the searching clause way too late in the sentence; the searching occurs first in time, and it should occur first in the sentence. Similarly, I think "We stared for hours every day at the television WHILE watching the March Madness games." works better because it keeps the logical order of the two activities.
