Yes. I know it looks and sounds odd, but you are correct:

Michaels (singular, not possessive)
Jane and Frank Michaels’s wedding (singular and possessive)

Michaelses (plural, not possessive)
The Michaelses’ wedding (plural and possessive)

It helps to ask yourself what you would do with a name that doesn’t end in a sibilant. Take “Smith” for example:

Smith (singular, not possessive)
Jane and Frank Smith’s wedding (singular and possessive)

Smiths (plural, not possessive)
The Smiths’ wedding (plural and possessive)

Since “Canute” does not end in an “s,” we simply add an “s” to make it plural and then add an apostrophe to make it possessive. You have several options:

The Canutes’ Lake House (plural and possessive)
The Canute Family Lake House (neither plural nor possessive)

Kimberly, if you treat your name as an English word (that is, not treating it as a French word–not sure how the French do it), then the singular possessive would be rendered thus: “Kimberly Legris’s car.” The plural possessive would be “the Legrises’ vacation.” Hope that helps! Thanks for writing.

As far as I can tell, Caroline, “Ioos” is a Russian name. I don’t know how possessives are rendered in Russian, but here in the US, you would write “Caroline Ioos’s car” or, if speaking of the entire family, “the Iooses’ vacation (both plural and possessive). Hope that helps!
